I don’t know about where you live but this weekend my adopted home Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is anticipating a boatload of snow or as the local tv weather bubs call it, ” A Plowable Event.” Whatever.
For the last few days the local paper and Action News folks have been interviewing hardware store owners and customers in anticpation of the storm as though no one has ever seen snow before. ” No More Ice Melt” screams one headline but here’s one thing that puzzles your befuddled author.
Every time there is a “Plowable Event” on the horizon there is invariably a run on snow shovels. ” Yep, we sold out again” says Louie at the local hardware emporium. Photos of bare snow shovel display racks populate the front page and run in a loop on ” Actions News Live at 4, 5 & 6.”
Here’s the source of my question…Since the beginning of recorded time and recorded snow falls and hardware stores there has always been a run on snow shovels in anticipation of said P. E.
Doesn’t everyone who ever needed or needs a snow shovel already have one or two or three? Earth must have enough snow shovels to circle the planet twice and reach to the moon and back if laid end to end.
What happens to them ? Where are they? In a warehouse in Secaucus, New Jersey? Are they stolen, hoarded and sold on the black market? No one knows. And neither do I.
Better tune into Action 8 News and the Investigator Eye Team for answers.
In the meantime it’s going to snow or as we like to say around here – It will be a Plowable Event. Whatever.
