Usually, and I mean like clockwork I could always count on the first of June as being opening day for scads of lightning bugs to appear here in south central Pennsylvania.  So far this June I have seen maybe half a dozen.

Is this another manifestation of of what might be happening to the climate and our planet?

In years past and even last summer I would see loads of lightning bugs flashing and flying close to the ground looking for dates and mates.  I assume that’s what they were doing.  This year looks like they threw a dance but nobody came.

Any bug lovers out there who can enlighten me?
