I heard an ad on the radio this afternoon for a credit card. The ad featured someone who is in tight financial times where ” every penny counts.”  So she was touting the benefits of her card.  I’ll say every dollar counts too.

Basically the deal is this:

You give the company your money which they hold.  They give you a debit card account.  They charge you a dollar a month for maintaining the account.

So when you want to buy something you use your debit card which is just as good as cash which it is because it’s your cash only you have loaned the company your cash and you are paying them a dollar a month to use your cash which you should have kept in your pocket in the first place.
